RETURN.TRIP.EFFECT
6:35 min, SD video, 2020
Driving around a quiet and unrecognizable New York City, I begin to lose my sense of time, place, and home.
The "return trip effect is" the unexplained phenomenon where a trip feels shorter when returning. A perceptual study of elapsed time in relation to (un)familiarity and expectation during a car ride around the COVID-19 epicenter in April of 2020.
The trip there ≠ the trip home.
"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes" – Marcel Proust
